SUSTAINABLE APARTMENT BUILDING DESIGN
This apartment building design is a kind of pyramid where everyone can get outdoor space with their apartment. It is designed as a series of setbacks allowing for terraces with planting beds for the occupants to have small vegetable gardens. There are photovoltaic (Solar Panel) sun shades over the patio doors.
The building design uses 2 colors of fiber cement board (rain screen) to fit in with and contrast with the colors of the surrounding buildings. This apartment building is designed as a sustainable development with environmental, economic, and social sustainability in mind. The building’s aim is balance with the community and balance with the environment.
TERRACES & SETBACKS
Setbacks in buildings can be common this building takes advantage of setbacks by creating terraces for the apartments and provided exterior space which would otherwise not be available for people living in a multifamily apartment building. Outdoor space and nature is so important to human life and often scarce in urban environments.
The building has a mix of unit types there are 2 bedroom, 1 bedroom, and studio apartments. The majority of the units have terraces with planting beds for vegetable gardens. The intention is to bring features into apartment living that would otherwise only be available in single family homes. Gardens and outdoor space are rare in urban apartment buildings.
This building incorporates many sustainable features for green living. Some of those are solar panels, vegetable gardens, and recycled materials. The building uses high efficiency insulation, LED lighting, energy efficient heating and air conditioning, and all appliances are energy star.
